Retirement unleashed

The PAPD Retired K9 Fund is dedicated to ensuring that Port Authority Police dogs receive the medical care they need after their years of active service. Our mission is to make sure every retired PAPD K9 enjoys a long, happy, and healthy retirement, reflecting the appreciation we have for their invaluable contributions.

The Port Authority Police K9 Unit is composed of both explosive and narcotic detection dogs, tasked with protecting vital Port Authority facilities. These include major transportation hubs like JFK, Newark, LaGuardia, and Teterboro airports, the World Trade Center complex, the Port Authority Bus Terminal, the PATH train system, and critical infrastructure such as the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels, the George Washington and Staten Island Bridges, and the Port Newark Ship and Cargo Terminals. In addition to serving the public and the Port Authority Police Department, these K9s also assist agencies such as the Drug Enforcement Administration, Secret Service, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Postal Service, and other government entities.

With an average career span of about eight years, these detection dogs work tirelessly to keep us safe, and our goal is to provide them with the best quality of life in retirement as a tribute to their dedication and loyalty.
